Friends of The Reef Marina,
We are underway! Piling works and pontoon installation for The Reef Marina’s expansion have commenced. To minimise disruption to customers, our expansion is being undertaken in two phases. The first phase involves demolition of thirteen existing C Row and E Row berths and the construction of thirty new 22 meter and 30 meter length berths (see map below). The new berths will all have 32 or 63 amp 3-phase power and will create much needed capacity for our commercial customers and visiting vessels.
Phase one of our expansion is being constructed by Queensland family-owned business – The Jetty Specialist – and all going well, will be completed by August. Phase one will cost almost $3 million, bringing to over $5 million the amount that has been invested in the The Reef Marina’s upgrade program over the last 18 months.
The expansion works will involve some disruption and relocation of boats. We will contact affected customers directly and warmly thank you for your cooperation. When navigating the marina basin, please beware of the new piles and work equipment.
DRINK & BE MERRY…. MAAN
As Jack Sparrow says… “Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate“. And our own Carribbean treasure will be arriving at The Reef Marina in the next few months with the opening of Barbados – Port Douglas. The new boardwalk bar has been described by its mixologist operators as a “blend of stylish island elements and luxurious detail that will appeal to locals and tourists alike”. Enjoying a cocktail with views of Dicksons Inlet and the Daintree….. bring it on I say! For more information, see www.newsport.com.au/Mother-son-team-plan-premium-bar-at-Mari.12425.0.html.
AND…. our very special Lure Restaurant & Bar is currently undergoing a major renovation. Lure continues to operate as normal, but will be unveiling their new bar area soon.
That got your attention!
Yes, the Port Douglas Carnivale is almost upon us. The Reef Marina will again being hosting the ever popular Seafood Extravaganza on 31st May 10am to 7pm. This is a day for families and friends, visitors and locals to come together and enjoy free entertainment and great seafood all along the marina boardwalk. Stalls offering the ‘fruit of the sea’ are plentiful, and you can also buy seafood direct from the trawlers in the marina. Kick back with a coldie, listen to the extra-ordinary talents of the Street Art and Music Finalists as they reprise their award winning acts. Tuck into a bucket of prawns, or fish and chips. For more information and tickets, see www.carnivale.com.au/event/seafood-extravaganza.
And also, the Marina Sunset Markets have resumed on Wednesday afternoons and on cruise ship days. Pop down to the marina for local crafts, treats and more!
ELECRICITY AND TOILETS
The Reef Marina’s new amenities block is open (thus satisfying one of the investment conditions of my wife). Thanks to the marina’s hardworking team and contractors for their efforts. The new showers and laundry facilities for marina residents will be opening soon and will require electronic card access.
We are also progressively upgrading the electricity supply and utilities pedestals to all berths. Starting with Rows C and D, berths will have new Patron Power Series II pedestals, with the option of 3-phase power. Please note that power and water metering will apply to all upgraded berths.
A big welcome to Zulu, a stunning new 54 foot custom built Assegai gameboat. Zulu is based at The Reef Marina and is available for fishing, diving and leisure charters. See www.zulugamefishing.com.au.
Welcome also to 51 foot Riviera ‘Facination’ (and the other boats that I’ve missed ;-o)
Have a terrific Port Douglas day!
