Good afternoon friends,
It’s a busy day at The Reef Marina with the arrival of guests from the Sea Princess cruise ship. The sun is shining and the marina markets are in full swing, so come on down and enjoy the festive atmosphere (Tip: the Daintree Forest chocolate is excellent!)
The dredging is finished! Over 50,000 cubic meters of silt was removed from The Reef Marina and deposited inland at specially constructed settlement ponds.
A big thanks to the team at Hall Contracting and to our boat owners who accommodated the works. The marina and approaches now have the following depths:
+ Dicksons Inlet – 2.3 meters LAT
+ Marina fairway to rows D, E & Q – 2.5 meters LAT
+ Marina fairway to rows B & C – 2.0 meters LAT
+ Marina fairway to row A – 1.5 meters LAT
It was not possible to dredge the 12 – 17 meter pens due to the muscular size of the dredge Everglade, but we are investigating options to maintain adequate depths in these pens.
Rob and the team have been working hard elsewhere on the marina upgrade program. The foreshore landscaping has transformed the view over Dicksons Inlet and the retail complex is now looking light and bright.
But the ‘to do’ list remains lengthy! We will soon be embarking on our next major project, the incremental replacement of timber walers around the marina pens.
COMINGS & GOINGS
There is activity abound in the marina…. which points to an exciting high-season ahead!
Congratulations to Quicksilver Connections on the acquisition of Poseidon, and to John & Jenny Edmondson on taking over the operations of Wavelength!
We have a number of new arrivals in the marina. Reel Chase Charters is now offering the gorgeous Amokura for game fishing charters (pictured below) and also The Joker. The sleek, newly commissioned Calypso Blue arrived a few weeks ago for snorkeling and diving tours (also pictured below).
Keep your eyes out for some impressive craft that will be visiting the marina in coming weeks, including a number of overseas arrivals heading to Port Douglas for the cruising and game fishing season.
How great was Seafood Extravaganza? Top weather, a terrific attendance and a fun, fun day! A big thanks to Byron & Vicki from M.A.D for organizing the event, and to the prize sponsors, stallholders, restauranteurs, The Reef Marina team and everyone else who helped out.
